In 2023, Ukraine significantly increased the volume of freight transportation in almost all directions compared to 2022.

Transportation by Ukrzaliznytsia has increased especially. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, in 2023, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 148.4 million tons of cargo, 126 million of which were transported between March and December, which is 24 million more than in the same period in 2022. In total, during this period, Ukrzaliznytsia transported an average of 23% more cargo per month than in the previous period. November became a record month for the railroad, when the volume of freight transportation amounted to 14.1 million tons of cargo.

Despite the war and constant shelling, maritime transportation in Ukraine is also gradually gaining momentum. Last year, 29 million tons of cargo were transported through the Danube ports alone. This is even more than in pre-war times. For example, in 2011, over the same period, the Danube ports handled 4.9 million tons of cargo.

Speaking of land transportation, the Agreement on Liberalization of Freight Transportation between Ukraine and the EU has helped to increase the volume of Ukrainian exports by more than 30% and imports to Ukraine by 25% compared to the pre-war period.
